So, I decided to start learning python. A lot of the cybersecurity experts I respect recommend learning python. They are careful to say it isn’t required but recommend learning ANY modern language, but python is a popular language, and it has a lot of uses. I could pivot to machine learning and AI (both which would help me advance at my current job). Since it is a scripting language, I think it would be simple for me to pick up the basics.
Of course, I’m not saying I’ll be an export python programmer in a month, but luckily for me, I am a quick learner and I have experience in scripting languages since I used to know Java, HTML, and CSS. I am still going to try to learn more HTML/CSS, even though most people would recommend learning one language at a time. My problem with that is I get bored easily. By learning more than one thing at a time I can switch topics.
I think that has been my biggest problem with me trying to learn HTML and CSS again starting this year. A lot of the courses I’ve seen start off so basic and simple that I get bored with it easily and turn it off. Like I’m currently watching a video on how to create a website with python. That seems like a fun project to migrate my website to as well. It would require I work with python, HTML, and CSS. It uses a piece of software called Flask. I think this would be a fun side project and I will give it a go soon probably.
**Update (Like 10 mins after I posted this originally) – Yeah…so, I realized after posting this (and while still watching the tutorial on the website) that I know I’m going to want to try to set this up soon. Like I’m tempted to spin up a vm on Linode (which is where this site is currently running) and do this setup. We will see…I may just do it after I wake up. The tutorial is creating a notes app, I wouldn’t use it for that. I would use the tutorial to build the website and templates and create a custom website as opposed to the WordPress-based website I am currently using. I think this would be a much better example of my skills than the basic stuff I am working on now.
Now, that isn’t to say I am going to migrate everything to the new site tomorrow and take this one down. I want to create the site and get my content over to it, but I’ll probably link to it from here until I get that site looking how I want. I also need to sort out the SSL stuff instead of using HTTP instead of HTTPS…gotta be careful with that. I screwed up the original site I made because I enabled HTTPS by accident, and it screwed up my access.
